EcoDecor
My project was born from the idea of using PVC in the academic field. However, I later discovered that PVC is a polluting material and difficult to dispose of. For this reason, I decided to find a sustainable biomaterial that could replace it. The result is a tile that can take on any desired shape, made with gelatin, water and glycerin. To make the structure more elastic without risk of breakage, a light fabric, such as tulle, is inserted between the layers. To further increase the strength of the material, chopped egg peels can be added, which gives a combination of flexibility and rigidity. As an alternative to tulle, felt can be used, which makes the material even more resistant. The tiles thus obtained can replace PVC for decorative purposes, taking on any shape or mould. Additionally, they can be engraved with gouges to create custom designs or patterns. The material has been tested, colored with specific colors and passed under the press to print the desired design. The material is non-flammable and can be made in different thicknesses to meet specific needs.
Supplies
-50ml Water
-10g Gelatin
-5g Clycer
-Egg shells
-Thermoactive powder.
-Balance
-Container
- saucepan
-table spoon
Mix the ingredients in a glass container over a flame to thicken Leave to act for 6-7 minutes, carefully add teaspoons of chopped egg shells, finally adding a pinch of thermoactive powder.Place a drop of sunflower oil in the molds. Once you have reached a homogeneous and fairly dense consistency, pour into silicone molds and leave to cool.
Take the egg skins and clean them with soap and water. Then boil them in a saucepan. Then, dry them in an oven for 30 minutes and, finally, blend them until they become a powder.
Afterwards, take water, add gelatin and glycerin, and mix the mixture. Then put it in a saucepan and add a little thermoactive powder.
Take some silicone moulds, add a drop of sunflower oil and spread it well so as not to let the mixture stick to the base. Then add the eggshell powder.
Make an initial casting, then apply a light fabric such as tulle. Make a second pour, then add the eggshell powder on top. Finally, wait for it to dry.
When the material is ready, it can be used for decoration and intaglio printing.
