This project presents the design and implementation of a sustainable drip irrigation system, using recycled PETG bottles connected to a pipe system by a specifically designed 3D part. This approach combines the reuse of plastics with 3D printing technology and automation of irrigation systems, allowing an innovative application of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) approach. Through this experiment, we seek to reduce the environmental impact by giving a new life to waste materials, promoting a more responsible use of resources and supporting the growth of small crops. In addition to providing an efficient and low-cost irrigation solution, this project has the potential to inspire the creative use of technology to address environmental problems. I use this project in my garden to germinate tomatoes, beans, watermelon and whatever you want, it is ideal to maintain humidity for days!

Print the Joint on Your 3D Printer

Print the union on your 3D printer, this is the main point since there is no universal union that allows the bottle spout to fit the 3/4 tube, use the following settings in your environment:

20% filling.

0.22mm layer

These parameters are the minimum, if you want to put more filling density it will be the best, it will avoid leaks due to pressure.

Construction of the Structure

On this occasion I will teach you how to assemble a PETG container system for irrigation that has 4 bottles, you can increase the amount according to your budget or the number of days of irrigation you want by following the same steps..

Step 1: Cut 15 pieces of 3/4 pipe 70 mm long.

Step 2: Using glue, join the pieces until you get this structure.

Step 3: Add plenty of glue to the 3D piece and place it on the structure.

Make the Union

It is important to use a large amount of Teflon and hydraulic sealant since it will be at a critical point where the pressure will act, once it is ready, let it dry.

Hydrostatic Test.

In this step, Pascal's hydrostatic law will be fulfilled, which describes the behavior of the fluid regardless of the diameter of its container. Remember that you must open a hole in the top of the bottles so that the atmospheric pressure can do its job.

This project is useful for a physics or chemistry class, very fun to explain this phenomenon!

Place Drippers and Stopcock

You will open the valve according to the size of the drop you want to come out of the system and fall on the seed, you can also open it completely and regulate the amount of water from the dripper, it is your option. Your project is ready!..... With this equipment watering 0.5 liters per day, you can water up to 8 days, saving time and water, there is almost none, remember!

Place the dripper at the root of the plant so that it is always moist. With this project I obtained:

tomato.

Pumpkin.

Corn.

Banana.

Each one with its irrigation every 12 days. I obtained the corn harvest in 78 days hahaha... Great, I hope you liked it. Thanks
