Eblow Blocker for Tray

We made a elbow blocking device that attaches to the tray of a wheelchair for kids at the Watson Institute.

• tri-wall cardboard
• white glue
• wood nails
• edging paper
• foam
• velcro
• primer
• paint
• polyurethane
• scissor
• jigsaw
• steak knife
• hammer

back piece

• height: ask how high the piece needs to be to keep the child's elbow from going over
• width: distance between the edges of the tray at the very back

side piece

• height: about 4.5 inches can adjust depending on child
• length: about 5 inches also can adjust

tray piece (for medium sized tray)

• width: 2 1/4in
• length: 4in

measure out your 3 pieces and cut out using jigsaw

***cut out small slit in back piece for the tray piece to fit into

***make sure tray piece is only 1 layer triwall thick

draw a line 1in above the longside on side piece to leave room for velcro

glue back piece to side piece above the 1in line, leaving 1in on the side piece for the velcro to stick to tray

glue tray piece into the slit made on back piece

add wood nails to secure side piece into back piece

cover all sides that will be in contact with elbow with foam

save pieces for later

paint with primer

cover with black paint

using white glue add the measured out foam pieces

Cut out 2 pieces of velcro for the bottom of tray piece

cut out 2 piece of velcro for side piece
