Easy and Delicious Breakfast Dosa
One of my favorite breakfast foods is Dosa. In case you don't know what Dosa is, it's essentially an Indian flatbread that's both scrumptious and healthy! Combined with a little bit of chutney (sauce for dipping the Dosa) you can make an easy meal that will be sure to surprise your guests!
Supplies
For Dosa:
- Urad Dhal (1 cup)
- Organic Brown Rice (2 cups)
- Organic Old Fashioned Oats (3 cups)
For Chutney (Sauce):
- Green chillies (To taste: We used 10)
- Peanuts (1 cup)
- Fresh Coconut (Half Cup) [Optional]
- Salt (To taste)
- Oil (2 tsp)
- Curry Leaves (2 stems)
- Jeera and Mustard Seeds (1 tbsp)
Preparing the Dosa Batter
Step 1: Wash the Urad Dhal and Organic Brown Rice
Step 2: Soak in water overnight or for 6 - 8 hours
Step 3: Add the Organic Old Fashioned Oats, Urad Dhal, and Organic Brown Rice to a blender and blend it into a smooth paste.
Step 4: Ferment the batter in a warm place for 6 - 8 hours (overnight is preferable)
Preparing the Chutney
Step 1: Sauté the chillies in a little bit of oil.
Step 2: Add the Chillies, Salt, Peanuts, and Coconut to a blender.
Step 3: Blend all the ingredients until they have been chopped up into small pieces, and then add 1 cup of water to the mixture.
Step 4: Blend the chutney until it becomes a smooth consistency.
Step 5: Sauté the Jeera and Mustard seeds along with the Curry Leaves in 1 tablespoon of oil.
Step 6: Add the sautéd mixture to the chutney and mix with a spoon until distributed evenly.
Your chutney is prepared! Move on to the next step to make the Dosa that complements the chutney
Preparing the Dosa
Step 1: Heat your pan over a medium to high flame.
Step 2: Prepare your pan by adding a couple of drops of oil, and spreading it around with an oil brush.
Step 3: Once the pan is evenly heated, add two spoons of the batter in the center of the pan.
Step 4: Start making circles from the center of the pan outward. This should create a spiral pattern and spread the batter evenly into a decently sized circle.
Step 5: Flip the Dosa over once you start seeing a golden brown color through the top of the Dosa.
Step 6: Remove the Dosa from the pan after the other side has cooked and becomes spongy.
Your Dosa is complete! Enjoy your meal!
Enjoy!
Making Dosa for yourself? No problem! Making Dosa for a full household? Sure! This easy, delicious, and healthy breakfast will be a treat for both yourself (Not a lot of work!) and for your family!
