Easy Wooden Bottle Dryer

IMG_0311.jpg

Lately, I've adopted a new hobby: beer home brewing.

Since this hobby is pretty expensive for beginners (the starter pack cost around 300-400$), I started to look for alternative & cheaper ways to get some of the equipment and off-course have fun in the process.

So I came up with the idea of making my own bottle dryer (which is needed for drying the bottles and getting all the disinfectant from the bottles before they're filled with beer) out of wood pieces and tools I have in my garage.

After doing a few calculations for the sizes and shapes I came up with an easy way to make 24 bottles wooden dryer.

In this instructable, I'm going to share how did I build my wooden bottle dryer from scratch including some tips for those who want to go even further.

Supplies

This instructable requires:

1X wooden board 80 cm. long, 40 cm width, and 2cm thick.

2X 2 wooden legs - 12 cm. long, 40 cm width, and 3cm thick. (If you prefer 4x long legs it's also possible).

* it's very important to have at least 2 cm thick because we wish to put some weight on it!

1X pen and a ruler to mark where to put the holes.

1X impact screwdriver (if you have a driller too it's better, I didn't have one when I made this dryer).

1X hole saw with about 4.5 cm diameter with a drilling bit.

1X screwing bit.

6X 3cm screws.

Drawing the Holes and Legs Locations

Start by drawing 2 parallel lines along the width of the board, 4cm away from the edges (the red lines in the photo).

locate 1 row of holes - we wish to locate 6 holes along 72 cm => we want to mark every 12 cm.

locate 1 column of holes - we wish to locate 4 holes along 40 cm => we want to mark every 10cm.

Use the ruler to draw a line along with the marked points and create a slot table (the black lines in the photo).

Mark every point where the lines meet - these will be the points where we'll drill (the X's in the photo).

Drilling the Holes

Use the head saw with the drilling bit to make holes - locate the drilling bit at the Xs we draw and drill.

In the end, we should have 24 holes like the whiteboard in the picture.

* You can use sandpaper to sand the holes, but it's not mandatory.

Add the Legs

Locate the two wooden legs at the two edges of the board - the leg's width along the board's width (right under and along the red line from step 1).

Use the impact screwdriver with the screwing bit to tighten 3 screws at the beginning, middle, and end of the board into the legs (the three red circles in the picture).

Enjoy Your Beer

The last step: after our bottles dryer is ready, we brewed great beer, dried the disinfected bottles, and waited enough for the beer to ferment.

It's time for us to pour a glass of delicious beer, lean back, and pamper ourselves with an ice-cold beer glass for the hard work we've done.

Cheers!
