Easy WiFi Controlled RGB Wine Bottle Optics Display

Hey Guys & Girls,

Here's a relatively cheap and easy project. Focusing on lighting and decor, I always enjoy designing things in & around the house, but also do my best to stay a tad green too. So why not better to upcycle all those empty wine bottles we've got cluttering around the recycling bin (possibly just me?)... and make something pretty awesome out of them.

The idea behind my design, was to add to my rgb lighting, but also to hide clutter above my wardrobe (Where I store a lot of crap) and optics do that really well. Read on to find out how you can too...

Supplies

- WS2812B 5050 LED RGB Fully Addressable strip 5V

- RGB WS2812 RGB LED Controller (Wifi/Phone Controller)

- 5V 2a Power Transformer Plug

- Screws - Around 5mm - 15mm

- Access to a 3D Printer

- Some Empty Bottles ;-)

Design & 3D Printing Parts

A quick head over to TinkerCad will help me out with this project. Although I've designed this around my wardrobe, with only 1x 90 degree external angle & a load of straight connectors, I've also added an STL File with 1x internal 90 degree angle so you can use these files for you own demands too.

Needs:

- To hold bottles securely

- To be able to lay 10mm LED strip

-To be controllable from phone (MyHome Application)

- Be quick to print

- Be cheap to print

Design has been made with preference to set print nozzle size to 0.4mm for faster printing.

Wine Bottles/Optics

Now we need to source some bottles. If your anything like me, you shouldn't be in short supply, lol. However, a quick trip down your local recycle bottle bank shouldn't let you down.

Just give the bottles a quick clean/polish and fill to the top with water. This will basically work as a fibre optic so not only catch the light from the LED strips but also bend light around the bottles, thus creating an empty space behind your display.

Mounting & Electrics

Layout your 3D printed parts and mount using the screw holes provided.

Electrics is as simple as 1,2,3

1 - Lay your (Adhesive) WS2812B lighting strip in the channel throught the 3D printed parts

2 - Plug your LED WiFi Controller onto LED strip

3 - Plug your Power adapter into your LED Wifi Controller (Make sure your transformer voltage is the same as your LED's!)

Job Done. Now follow the included instructions with the controller and hook it all up to your Phone and WiFi. Many presets are already there in the "MyHome App" for different lighing displays. Also you can use the mic on your phone to use it as an equalizer.
