Easy to Make 'Pencil Boxes' Recycle Your Pencils
This is a great way to use up those little pencils you have laying around, that nobody wants to use!
It will give your desk a pop of colour, or bring a smile to someones face if you decide to give it as a gift. Fill it with some goodies, pens or 'new' pencils, or just give it the way it is!
What You Will Need
Any size box you wish to use, you can make any size work.
Small Colored Pencils
Pencil Sharpener
Hot Glue Gun
A way to cut the pencils, I used a Table Saw.
Ready, Set, Sharpen Your Pencils!
You will need to sharpen BOTH ends of all your pencil. I ended up with blisters on my fingers from twisting all the pencils!! If you have an electric sharpener, I would highly recommend using it :)
Cutting Them
Now it's up to you how you will cut your pencils. I was able to use my Dad's table saw, which worked really well. If you are going to use a table saw, you need to cut the pencils slowly so the lead inside cuts and doesn't snap. It won't matter if you don't get them exactly in half, as you will see, the different lengths may come in handy!
Hot Gluing Your Pencils
Once you have thought up a pattern to do on your box, start by putting the hot glue on a pencil and stick it to your box. Hot glue dries really fast, so when you put your pencil on the box, you only have a few seconds to move it, if you didn't like the first place you had put it!
Continue Around Your Box, and Your Done!
Just keep gluing those pencils onto your box and you're done!!
*Keep in mind, that if you choose to use a box with a lid (as in the picture) make sure you leave enough room around the edge for the lip of the lid, so you can put the lid on properly :)
