Easy Spicy Pretzels
These pretzels coated in delicious spices are an addictive snack for any occasion. They have been a family favorite and never last very long in our house. You can adjust the heat level to your liking and play around with different spices to change up the flavor.
There is also a funny story that comes along with these. One year during the winter, my neighbors took one of our light-up animal Christmas decorations off of our porch. They left a note saying that if we did not drop off a batch of spicy pretzels at their house in a week, we would not see our decoration again. We made this quick recipe in under two hours, and so our festive pig decoration was returned safely to us.
Preparation
Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit and gather the following:
Ingredients
- 1 cup of vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon of garlic salt
- 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 1 envelope of ranch salad dressing mix
- 1 20 oz. bag of stick pretzels
Utensils
- Large, shallow baking sheet
- Whisk
- Small mixing bowl
- Gallon-sized Ziploc bag
- Teaspoon and cup measure
Make the Mixture
Pour the oil, cayenne pepper, ranch mix, and garlic salt into the bowl. Whisk it until well-combined.
Coat the Pretzels
Put the pretzels in the Ziploc bag and then pour the oil and seasoning mixture in. Seal the bag tight and continually flip the bag so that all the pretzels are covered.
Bake the Pretzels
Pour the coated pretzels onto the baking sheet and spread them out so that form the thinnest layer possible. Bake them in the oven for an hour and twenty minutes. Stir the pretzels around every twenty minutes for even baking, but be careful to not knock off too much seasoning. Feel free to sprinkle on more cayenne pepper for more spice.
Cool and Enjoy!
Once the baking time is done, take the pretzels out of the oven and set the baking sheet on the cooling rack. Give the pretzels ample to cool down because sealing them in a container too soon may cause them to lose their crunch. They are now ready to serve and enjoy, ideally. And again, if you want more heat, add more cayenne pepper on top!
