Easy Peasy Beesy Candles

Beeswax is magical. Beeswax candles burn bright, steady, and with the scent of honey. Here’s a really simple way to make one.

A clean tin can with top removed and bent to make a spout. A small glass (like a shot glass or votive holder) from a thrift store. Wick, cheap online. I’ve had good luck with square braided wick, size #1. And of course, beeswax. Less than ten dollars a pound is a good price for beeswax.

Break up your beeswax, place it in the tin, and melt the wax in simmering water.

Cut a piece of wick long enough to reach from the top to bottom of your glass container. Dip it into the melted wax and let it dry straight. (If you want to make a taper candle, repeat this a few hundred times.)

Pour the (HOT!) wax into the container.

Let the candle cool. Clean up the beeswax you spilled.

Drill a small hole, sized for your wick, in the center of the candle.

Slide the wick in the hole, and trim the excess.
