Please refer my another fire piston on

This fire piston uses either traditional thread gasket or O ring . Its realy an easy Duo Seal fire piston.

Since cylinder of smaller diameter (3/8") is used, its easier to produce required pressure. Means its easier on hands.

The Cylinder

Cylinder is formed by brazing a penny size copper plate at one end of 5" copper tube. The diameter of tube is 3/8".

Now put some char cloth in front drilled end of the piston. Lubricate the O ring or thread gasket with little petroleum jelly.

Insert it in cylinder and insert full length 2 - 3 times to lubricate inner wall of cylinder.

Put cylinder on some support. insert piston and give sharp quick thrust. It must reach to the sealed end of cylinder.
(This is what gets impossible for larger diameters of cylinder. For 3/8" its very easy)

Withdraw  the piston quickly. (If it takes long to withdraw the ember  extinguishes  due to lack of oxygen)

You will have ember. Dig it out from hole with some pin and put it on tinder to make larger fire.

One thing to be noted you might not be successful of first attempt. Still its alright. It needs practice.

Don't forget to put your comments.

Thanks

I Made One More....its Tiny

Today I made one more fire piston......a little one with copper tube of only 3" length (3/8" diameter). The dowel is of wood and its handcrafted (I used knife only to shape it from a larger diameter stick.).
It too works like a charm.
