Easy Monster Donuts
I have always loved Halloween and I have fond memories from my childhood of all of the fun things I got to do so many years ago. For this Instructable, I decided to make easy pumpkin-chocolate donuts and decorate them with fun things to make them look like monsters. Besides being very cute, the recipe is also quite tasty and will satisfy all of the chocolate lovers in your house! Here is how easy it is to make them.
Ingredients Needed
1 (15.25-ounce) package devil's food cake mix
1 cup canned pure pumpkin
2 large eggs
1/2 cup water
2 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, divided
7 tablespoons milk, divided
1/4 cup cocoa powder
2 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
1 (3.5-ounce) package mini Oreo cookies
mini M & M candies
sliced almonds
Supplies Needed
medium mixing bowl
rubber scraper
2 smaller mixing bowls
2 spoons
12 count donut pan or 12 individual silicone donut makers
no stick cooking spray
large cookie sheet
Now Preheat
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
Make the Batter
In the medium mixing bowl stir together the devil's food cake mix, the pumpkin, eggs and water.
Into the Oven
Spray each silicone donut shape with no stick cooking spray. Spoon in the batter and place each on a cookie sheet. Bake for 12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes clean.
Make the Eyes
Meanwhile, count out 24 mini Oreo cookies. Remove the top cookie from each Oreo. Save them for another use or just eat them! Arrange mini M & M candies on the white part of each Oreo. Press gently.
Allow to Cool
When the donuts are fully baked, remove them from the oven. Allow them to cool for at least 10 minutes. Gently remove your donuts from the silicone donut shapes. Cool completely before icing.
Prepare the Vanilla Icing
In a small mixing bowl, combine 1 cup confectioners' sugar, 2 tablespoons milk and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Dip the top of 6 donuts into the vanilla glaze.
Make Optional Drizzle
Combine 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, 1 drop yellow food coloring and 1 drop red food coloring. Mix well. Drizzle over the white glazed donuts.
Make the Chocolate Glaze
In another small mixing bowl, combine the remaining 1 cup confectioners' sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa powder. Stir in 2 tablespoons milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
The Chocolate Glazed Donuts
Dip the tops of the 6 remaining donuts into the chocolate glaze. Drizzle with the remaining orange icing.
Complete the Donuts
While the donuts are still wet, press 2 matching eyes onto the top of each donut. Add 3 sliced almonds to the bottom of each donut to form their teeth.
All Finished!
That was a fun Instructable to make and kids might enjoy helping with this one. I think they came out really cute and they are quite tasty too!!! Have a Happy Halloween everyone!!!!
