Easy Model Railroad Using a Kit

Easily create a small model railroad scene using a kit. (N scale)

Supplies

^ Kit used and all materials included, will need your own knife and/or scissors

Making the Base

Cut out the foam to use for the base using the templates from the kit

Continue Base

Glue the foam curve to the bottom piece, using the provided template to get the angles right.

Dip the plaster cloth in water and lay it over the curve piece. Wait ~1 hour for it to dry.

Track and Walls

Glue down the base for the track, then glue the track down onto it (on top of the curve piece)

Bend and glue the tunnel walls to the back side of the curve piece, make sure they don't go over the edge and block the base

Assemble the base walls using the foam pieces cut out from step 1, and glue them down.

Finish Tunnel Shape

Add detail to the track inside the tunnel before gluing all of the pieces of it down.


Terrain Support

Start placing down the paper to act as the shape for the terrain, place however much you want and whatever shapes you want.

Planning Terrain

Plan and finalize the structure for your terrain

Activate Plaster Cloth

Cover the track with tape before starting this to protect it.

Activate all the plaster cloth using water, then lay it over the paper how you want it (one section at a time). Wait for it to dry

Place rock molds where you want them, and use more plaster cloth or glue to set them in place

Start Detailing

Start by painting the tunnel portal and the rock molds with a wash of paint (Water + some paint)

Make sure they are secured in place

Finish Detailing

Start by painting all the terrain with the brown paint mixed in water (careful to avoid the rock molds and the tunnel)

Ballast the remaining track section

Add the grass powders until the base area is completely covered (there are multiple colors)

(Make sure to glue everything down using the spray bottle of glue)

Put down whatever else you want (trees, bushes, etc)

Finish

Add any last finishing details you want

Finish by painting the sides of the base black, once that is complete your all done!
