Supplies: two lengths of chord (mine is 3mm thick) that are each 10ft long, eight pieces of the same rope that are 8 inches long, wool needle, and scissors.
Step 1: Getting Set Up
![D19F6407-C872-4867-A3D4-122FC9A321E9.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FM4/Y2VU/KIBPHUDI/FM4Y2VUKIBPHUDI.jpg&filename=D19F6407-C872-4867-A3D4-122FC9A321E9.JPG)
Fold your two long pieces of rope so that approx. 1/3 of the rope is on one side, and 2/3 on the other. Tape the two pieces to a board with the shorter ends in the middle.
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![8B7A74CE-0DA6-432D-BC43-064CD5C2F67A.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FWY/Q0HB/KIBPHUDD/FWYQ0HBKIBPHUDD.jpg&filename=8B7A74CE-0DA6-432D-BC43-064CD5C2F67A.JPG)
Take the left hand piece, and bring it over top of the other three (making a 4 shape)
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![412B7313-B79F-4DE3-B25F-4065ADA7EDAE.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F5M/PXCU/KIBPHUDH/F5MPXCUKIBPHUDH.jpg&filename=412B7313-B79F-4DE3-B25F-4065ADA7EDAE.JPG)
Take the right most piece (not the one you just brought over) and bring it on top of the piece you just brought across
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![9BD0F977-43FA-4354-A9D7-32716934687C.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FJE/W2N9/KIBPHUD7/FJEW2N9KIBPHUD7.jpg&filename=9BD0F977-43FA-4354-A9D7-32716934687C.JPG)
Take that same right hand piece and put it behind all the other pieces of rope
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![09BF12AA-E30C-4C57-B914-D8DEC13E450C.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FXS/CSDD/KIBPHUDE/FXSCSDDKIBPHUDE.jpg&filename=09BF12AA-E30C-4C57-B914-D8DEC13E450C.JPG)
Now bring the tail of that piece in through the loop/hole on the left hand side. It should be coming from the back and so will come out the front
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![6E1C6A43-565E-44CF-93E1-9F1CA2EE9024.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F67/TZQP/KIBPHUD4/F67TZQPKIBPHUD4.jpg&filename=6E1C6A43-565E-44CF-93E1-9F1CA2EE9024.JPG)
Pull the two side pieces to move the knot up to the tape
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![459B30F1-15A8-4686-907E-E694A7506743.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FKA/HSJG/KIBPHUD9/FKAHSJGKIBPHUD9.jpg&filename=459B30F1-15A8-4686-907E-E694A7506743.JPG)
Now we are going to do the same in reverse! Bright the right hand piece over top of the other three (making a backwards 4 shape)
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![CF181117-706C-4AF3-9538-3639C6CE04AB.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FNN/PDNR/KIBPHUDB/FNNPDNRKIBPHUDB.jpg&filename=CF181117-706C-4AF3-9538-3639C6CE04AB.JPG)
Take the left hand piece and put it in front of the piece you just brought over
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![D6428797-2A2F-49E9-91BA-F92F43C6FD57.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FGB/J604/KIBPHUDC/FGBJ604KIBPHUDC.jpg&filename=D6428797-2A2F-49E9-91BA-F92F43C6FD57.JPG)
Take that same piece and bring it across but behind the others
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![E9565ED4-C77D-49F9-B792-33B10A8968C1.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FF3/QO22/KIBPHUD2/FF3QO22KIBPHUD2.jpg&filename=E9565ED4-C77D-49F9-B792-33B10A8968C1.JPG)
Bring the tail of that piece through the right hand loop (from back to front)
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![728AAC52-C11E-428B-8D03-E740971A9547.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FQF/2S24/KIBPHUD1/FQF2S24KIBPHUD1.jpg&filename=728AAC52-C11E-428B-8D03-E740971A9547.JPG)
Pull the two side pieces tight so the knot moves up the middle rope to the top
Step 2: Learn a Square Knot!
![9AC7F465-7C47-4138-853C-DF5D07318899.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F2R/C2ND/KIBPHUCX/F2RC2NDKIBPHUCX.jpg&filename=9AC7F465-7C47-4138-853C-DF5D07318899.JPG)
Temp take the tape off and pull the two middle pieces so there isn't two loops at the top any more
Step 3: Repeat!
![7F5B99B1-259E-418A-8F53-E16B6A290138.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F8S/FSFT/KIBPHUCI/F8SFSFTKIBPHUCI.jpg&filename=7F5B99B1-259E-418A-8F53-E16B6A290138.JPG)
And there you have it! You made a square knot! Repeat this until you have used up all your two side pieces of rope (the middle two will stay the same length the same time)
Step 3: Repeat
![8895D2E6-19BB-458C-9882-AFCC50F69EC8.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FFG/GRRS/KIBPHUCS/FFGGRRSKIBPHUCS.jpg&filename=8895D2E6-19BB-458C-9882-AFCC50F69EC8.JPG)
Keep going!
Step 3: Repeat!
![F328B593-344C-454B-8BD8-1301441626E4.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/F98/7AK2/KIBPHUCW/F987AK2KIBPHUCW.jpg&filename=F328B593-344C-454B-8BD8-1301441626E4.JPG)

![E5BAEBD5-C186-4154-88A0-6FEDD46A5DC4.JPG](/proxy/?url=https://content.instructables.com/FO5/0HST/KIBPHUCQ/FO50HSTKIBPHUCQ.jpg&filename=E5BAEBD5-C186-4154-88A0-6FEDD46A5DC4.JPG)
