Easy Halloween Family Meal

1.jpg

A quick Halloween meal for the family to enjoy together before the kids go out trick-or-treating. This is a simple suggestion on how to set the right mood with an easy and fun Halloween themed lunch/dinner, especially for families with children.

The Plate

First of all, you will need a plate in which to serve your terrific and delicious meal. Use a black plate as the canvas for your drawing.

The Mysterious Yellow Soil

For the ground, rinse and peel a few potatoes and cut them into sticks. Deep fry them in vegetable oil until golden and let any excess oil drain onto a paper towel. Season with salt and pepper or any other seasonings to your liking.

The Haunted Woods - Tree Trunks and Branches

To assemble the trees, use thinly sliced chicken tenders.
Start by cutting a chicken fillet in strips and season to your preference.

Then, prepare 3 plates: one with flour, another one with 2 beaten eggs and a final one with the breadcrumbs.

Coat the chicken strips with flour, dip them into the egg mixture and coat again, this time with breadcrumbs.

Fry them in vegetable oil until golden and let them drain onto a paper towel.

Agonizing Green Leaves and Trees

For the green elements, such as the leaves, I used peas. You can also use broccoli or any other vegetables better suited to your child’s preferences.

Add some peas to a bowl and mash them with a spoon. Add salt and pepper to taste.

The Blood Moon

To make a bloody full moon, separate the egg yolk from one egg and fry it in a pan with some olive or vegetable oil. Very gently, transfer it to the plate.

The egg shell should be carefully cracked and put aside, to be used later on.

I chose not to use the egg white on my dish, but you can fry it and add it as clouds, ghosts or use it any other way you wish.

The Cursed Crows

Add some spooky little crows flying on the horizon. Cut some pitted black olives into circles and slice them in half. Arrange the two halves to make the shape of a flying bird.

The Blood Lake

Add ketchup or tomato sauce to the plate to mimic a bloody lake.

Final Message

Add a spooky or happy personalized message for every family member. You simply need to buy some alphabet pasta and cook the letters you sorted out in boiling water.

Gently remove them from the pot and let them dry on a paper towel.

Little Skull Guts Dessert

For a very simple and healthy dessert, choose pomegranate. It’s a seasonal fruit and its color and shape suit Halloween perfectly.

Use the broken egg shell from step 5 to make a little scary bowl for your pomegranate. Carefully wash and dry its inside and draw some spooky eyes on the upper half of the shell. Then, put it together with the bottom half on an individual egg cup.

Sort the pomegranate seeds out and gently place them inside the shell.

Start Your Drawing

Arrange all the elements you cooked on your plate. You can use any red beverage for the kids and tell them to drink the blood.

If you have any interesting baking cutters, you can use them to help create some of the shapes.

Add some table decorations of your choice to better set the mood.

You can use any other ingredients or choose a different design, according to your family’s preferences and diet. Just make sure that everyone loves it and have fun!

The Final Touch

For a scarier dinner atmosphere, turn off the lights, light up some candles and tell each other your spookiest Halloween stories!
