Easy Guide to Fix a Table Lamp
I would like to tell you the story that led me to do this, It started when I used to go to my table every evening to read stories but as soon as I switched on the lamp it started flickering. Sometimes it would stop suddenly, Which used to bother me a lot while reading stories and its battery also drained within a few hours. One evening when I went to read the story it stopped forever and after that I thought to throw it in this store room.
Recently I came across a contest in Instructables called Fix It Contest. This is the story that came to my mind when I saw this. Then I thought it is a very common problem so we could definitely fix this. That's what brought me to this project.
So in this project, we are fixing a table lamp and this is a simple guide that help you to replace your table lamp battery quickly and easily. No complicated steps or tools are needed—just follow these steps
Supplies
Materials and Tools required:_
- Table lamp (Not Working)
- Screwdriver
- Multimeter
- Soldering iron or Soldering Station
- 1* Battery 18650 (3.7v)
Open the Lamp
- Table lamps come in various designs, so take a moment to analyze how your lamp is assembled.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the lamp's casing together. Be gentle to avoid damaging the casing or internal components.
- Carefully separate the casing, keeping an eye on any clips or additional fasteners that may secure it.
Testing the Battery
- Use a multimeter to test the voltage of the existing battery. The minimum required voltage for most table lamps is typically around 4 volts, so check if the battery is providing sufficient power.
- Check for signs of a dead or malfunctioning battery, such as significantly lower voltage readings or irregular fluctuations in voltage when the lamp is turned on.
Removing the Old Battery
- Locate the position of the old battery inside the lamp. Keep in mind that the placement may vary depending on the lamp's design.
- Use a soldering iron to carefully desolder the connections attaching the old battery to the lamp's circuitry. Take proper precautions to avoid damaging other parts of the lamp.
- Ensure that the soldering iron is at the appropriate temperature and work in a well-ventilated area to minimize fumes.
Checking the New Battery
- Before installing the new battery, use the multimeter to check its voltage. Ensure that it meets the minimum requirement, which is typically around 4 volts for most table lamps.
- Additionally, verify that the new battery fits properly in the designated slot and is compatible with the lamp's specifications. Ensure that the polarity markings match for correct installation.
Installing the New Battery
- Insert the new battery into the designated slot, ensuring it matches the polarity markings for correct installation.
- Carefully solder the connections to secure the new battery in place. Take caution to avoid harming other components of the lamp.
- Verify that the positive and negative wires are correctly connected to the new battery and fit them securely without any loose connections.
Testing the Lamp
- Without closing the lamp's casing, carefully inspect the connections and ensure there are no loose wires or solder joints.
- Visually check for any signs of damage or irregularities in the soldering of the new battery.
- Verify that the positive and negative wires are securely attached to the battery terminals.
- Test the lamp for any issues such as flickering, dimming, or irregular light output.
Closing the Lamp
- Carefully reassemble the lamp's casing, ensuring that all components fit back together snugly.
- Tighten the screws securely to hold the casing in place.
- Double-check all connections and wires to ensure they are properly seated and secure.
- Test it again to confirm that everything is functioning as expected.
Conclusion:
Summarize the steps taken to replace the battery in the table lamp and emphasize the importance of regular maintenance for electronic devices.
Tips:
- Always use caution when working with electrical components.
- Double-check the polarity of the battery before soldering it in place.
- Dispose of old batteries properly according to local regulations.
