Easy Flamethrower

WARNING: Playing with fire is dangerous. Be cautious and keep a fire extinguisher nearby at all times.

This flamethrower is a system that can be mounted inside virtually anything. I have mounted it inside a Nerf gun, a 3D printed batarang, and an iPod. This system is safest when mounted. Do not use it as-is.

Supplies

  • Butane. Butane in a can works best. Don't use uncompressed butane. It won't work.
  • A long-nosed lighter. A cheap Dollar Tree one is used here.
  • Leather gloves. Use these when flamethrowing and filling the cartridges.
  • A container, such as a bucket.
  • A fine-tip screwdriver.
  • A heavy dose of stupidity

Disassemble the Lighter

Take out the screws and remove the red cap on the base of the nose. Open up the lighter and disconnect the fuel cartridge from the fuel hose.

Give the Lighter a New Life

Unscrew the nozzle from the cartridge. All of the fuel will shoot out and throw the parts of the cartridge out, so put a bucket in front of the lighter to catch them. Throw out the small disk (usually black and white), but keep the fuel wick. Tighten the nozzle until it stops turning, then turn it two full rotations backward. This allows the fuel to get dumped out in large quantities. Slide the black inside of the nose of the lighter out and remove the white cap. Take out the fuel hose and nozzle.

Fill the Cartridge and Mount the System

Press down on the white trigger of the cartridge while adding butane to the lighter. Fill up both of the chambers with butane. Wash your hands to get rid of the butane you inevitably got on yourself. Connect the hose to the lighter nozzle and mount it on a Nerf gun. Use an arc lighter to light the butane.
