Easy Faux Stained Glass With Paint and Glue!

Fake stained glass is a hit with kids and makes a great present for them to give to parents or grandparents!

• Picture frame with glass frame. I bought mine at the dollar store.
• acrylic paints in various colors
• white glue
• clear glue
• paintbrushes
• stained glass pattern or design your own
• toothpicks for mixing paints
• q-tips for correcting mistakes
• small disposable bathroom cups for mixing paints

The lines of the stained glass are made with black glue.

To make black glue,

1. pour about a teaspoon of black acrylic paint into the container of white glue.
2. Mix well. I used a kabob stick because of the length. It worked great!
3. Test to ensure that the glue is properly mixed. Pour a little bit onto a paper towel or another disposable surface. There shouldn't be any white spots in the glue. If there is, mix again. You can also add more black paint if the color is not dark enough.

1. Place a paper towel or another protective covering down on your table. This will keep the paint from making a mess.
2. Place your design (if using) in the center of the paper towel. Place clean piece of glass from the picture frame over the top.
3. Using the black glue, carefully trace the black lines of your design. If you make a mistake, you can use the q-tip to wipe away the lines and start over. Young kids might need help with this part if they can't squeeze the glue bottle.
4. Once the entire design is traced allow it to dry. Depending on how thick your lines are, this could take a day or two.

Once the outline is dry you are ready to paint! Making the paint is very simple.

1. Add two tablespoons of clear glue to a bathroom cup.
2. Using a toothpick, add a few drops of acrylic paint in whichever color you want.
3. Mix thoroughly until all the glue is colored.
4. If the glue is too light, you won't be able to see the coloring once it dries because it will lighten up. Make sure that it is dark enough.
5. Repeat with all the colors you want to use in your stained glass.

1. Place your stained glass on a paper towel if not already on a towel to prevent mess.
2. Using one color at a time, fill in the spaces between the black lines.
3. Don't use too much paint or it will bleed into the next section.
4. If you make a mistake, you can use a q-tip to clean it up. Don't worry too much about getting paint on the lines as this is the back of the painting.
5. Once the painting is done, allow it to dry for one to two days, until the glue is no longer wet.
6. Place the picture, paint side down into a frame. The part that you painted will be under the glass and the outer surface of the picture should be smooth. I usually clean the front of the glass with glass cleaner as it can get dirty.
