Easy-Drinking Green Juice
How to Make Easy-Drinking Green Juice
If made properly, green juice can be a sweet, refreshing, and healthy addition to your diet. Juicing is an efficient way to increase your daily intake of fruits and vegetables, especially if you struggle to incorporate these foods into your everyday lifestyle. This easy-drinking green juice is a great source of calcium, iron, and vitamins A, K, E, and C.
Yield:
2 servings
Equipment and Ingredients:
Juicer
Large bowl
Sharp knife
Cutting board
32-ounce Mason jar or other container
Strainer (optional)
2 medium green apples
1 medium cucumber
2 medium stalks of celery
1-inch piece of ginger root
1 cup of loosely packed spinach
1 cup of loosely packed kale
1 sprig of mint (about 6 leaves)
1 medium lemon
2 large oranges
Wash all fruits and vegetables in cold water.
TIP: Swish spinach and kale in a bowl of cold water to remove dirt.
Remove and discard peels of oranges and lemon. Try to remove as much of the pith as possible to prevent bitterness. Cut citrus into quarters and place pieces in large bowl.
Chop apple, cucumber, and celery into 1-2-inch pieces. The size of the pieces will be determined by the width of your juicer’s chute. Discard apple core. Place ingredients in large bowl.
Place remaining ingredients in large bowl.
Plug in juicer and turn on. Place Mason jar under spigot to collect juice.
Feed the fruit and vegetables into the chute in the order listed above. The oranges will help push the greens and ginger root out of the reservoir and spigot. Use your juicer’s plunger to push ingredients down the chute and keep them from bouncing out.
WARNING: To avoid injury, use only the plunger that came with your machine. Do not use your hands or metal utensils.
Turn off machine after all ingredients have been fed through the chute.
TIP: Taste test the juice. If it is not sweet enough for your taste, feel free to add another apple or orange.
Strain the juice if you prefer a smoother texture.
NOTE: Straining will remove the fiber content that is left from the remaining pulp.
Fresh juice is best consumed immediately. Leftovers should be stored in the refrigerator and used within 48 hours.
