Easy Decorated Marshmallows (Taste Like Peeps)

Here is a super easy way to make your marshmallows fancy, pretty and oh so yummy!
They remind me a little of peeps but even better and much more sophisicated!

All you need are:
Large Marshmallows (you could use mini marshmallows but large are best)
lollipop sticks (optional)
colored sugar
steam

Collect Ingreidents

Collect your ingredients:

Large Marshmallows
lollipop sticks (same amount as marshmallows)
Colored sugar (may use more than one color)

Aproximately 1 teaspoon of sugar for each marshmallow.

Note: if you do not have lollipos sticks you can use popsicle sticks, chop sticks or even forks.

Create Steam

Bring water to a boil to create steam.

I prefer to use a tea kettle as the steam is concentrated to a small area.

You can also boil water in a pot on the stove or microwave water in a microwave safe bowl or cup until it boils.
Note: If you use the mircowave you will have to work fast before the water cools and stops changing to steam.

Add Stick to Marshmallows

Add one stick to each marshmallow you want to decorate.

Push stick into the flat side of the marshmallow and push slightly past halfway into the marshmallow.
Note do not push all of the way through the marshmallow.

(Of course you could make marshmallow kabobs and then you would thread more than one marshmallow on each kabob stick.)

Steam Your Marshmallow

Rotate one marshmallow so that all sides of the marshmallow are exposed to the steam.
The marshamllow will become shiny indicating that it is now sticky.
Once all side of the one marshmallow you wanted decorated are shiny move to the next step.

Note: I like all of the marshmallow covered in colored sugar so I steam all sides of the marshmallow.

Dip in Colored Sugar

Now that your marshmallow is shiny and sticky it is time to roll it in the colored sugar.
Just keep rolling the marshmallow in the colored sugar until all of the steam exposed marshmallow is covered in colored sugar.
You can use a spoon to sprinkle the sugar on hard to reach spots on the marshmallow, for example on the side with the stick.

Note: You can get creative and use different sugars.  You can mix all fo the sugars together for a rainbow effect or decorate one side with one color and the other side or top with different colors.

Note: Do not attempt to re-steam a marshmallow once it has colored sugar on it, you will just make a googey mess.

Repeat Steps 4 and 5

Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for each additional marshmallow until they are all decorated.

Enjoy!
