  • 1 tsp. of black ground pepper (5g)

Stuffing requires diced dried or stale bread. If you plan ahead you can take your bread and cut it up the day before, then lay it out on a sheet pan, and let it sit for the day, and the bread will dry out nicely. Or you can just put the trays in the oven at 200 degrees F. and bake the bread for 20 minutes then rearrange it and bake for another 20 minutes, and that should dry out the bread for you.

Butter and Veggies

Now let's add 3/4 cup of our butter to a skillet and place it on the stovetop at medium heat. After the butter melts down, add your celery, onion, and garlic. Let the mixture cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will soften up the onion and celery.

Spice It Up!

Now after the mixture has cooked, add in your spices. The salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning mix, or if you are using fresh Thyme, Rosemary, Sage, etc. you can add it now, and mix it all together.

Broth Time

Now add the bread cubes to a large bowl, then pour the veggies over it. Next add one cup of broth to it and stir it all together.

Eggs and Broth

Next add your eggs to your remaining cup of broth, and whisk to combine. Pour the mixture over your stuffing and stir to make sure everything gets coated. Your bread cubes will soak up all this yummy goodness.

Place and Bake

Now add your stuffing to a 13x9 inch pan that has been greased with cooking spray, oil, or shortening. Even out the mixture with a spoon or spatula, and then dot the top with the remaining 1/4 cup of butter. Cover it with foil and bake at 350 F (176 C) for 40 minutes. Then uncover and bake for another 35 to 45 minutes until the top gets lightly golden brown.

Enjoy!

Look at how nice this came out. The top has some nice crispy bits, which I will admit are my favorite. Now serve it up with your meal and enjoy! :)
