Easy Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe (no eggs)

In this Instructable, I will show you how to make a one-serving chocolate mug cake in the microwave, it can also be done in a traditional oven. From start to finish it is ready in under 5 minutes (longer if done in the oven.) This is perfect for someone who is craving chocolate cake but doesn't want to make a whole cake.

Don't forget to follow me and check out my other Instructables!

Follow the super easy steps below or watch the video tutorial or do both!

Ingredients:

  • 3 Tbsp of AP or Cake flour (23g)
  • 3 Tbsp of sugar (37g)
  • 4 Tsp of cocoa powder (16g)
  • 1/4 tsp of baking powder (1g)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 Tbsp of water, milk, or coffee
  • 1 Tbsp of oil (canola, vegetable, coconut, olive, avocado)

*Other ingredients you can try, 1 Tbsp of mashed banana, yogurt, applesauce, or sour cream

Tools:

  • Mug - microwave safe, or oven-safe if using the oven.
  • Fork

Mix Those Ingredients

Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt to the mug and mix with a fork. This will break up any clumps that you might have from the cocoa powder.

Then add the water and the oil. And if you want to use sour cream, banana, yogurt, etc. add that as well. Just like that the batter is ready and the mug cake is read to be cooked/baked.

Cook That Mug Cake

Now place the mug in the microwave and cook it for 1 minute and 30 seconds in a 1200-watt microwave or it may need 1 min 45 seconds or up to 2 minutes even if you have a lower-watt microwave.

Check with a toothpick and if it comes out clean it is done.

I don't normally put frosting on my mug cakes, but you certainly can. Typically I just sprinkle on a tiny bit of powdered sugar.

Now serve!

*If you want to use a standard oven: You need an oven-safe bowl/mug or a small cake pan. 350F/176C In a standard tall oven-proof mug it will take 25 to 30 minutes. In a wide open-mouth mug it will take less time 20 to 25 minutes. Just check it with a toothpick. In a small cake pan, it will be 15 to 20 minutes.

*Print the mug cake recipe here if you want.
