Easy Apple Hand Pies
In this instructable I will show you how to make apple pie, specifically apple hand pies. This recipe is incredibly easy, and they wind up being like a copy cat version of the Hostess Fruit pies. Super cool! If I can make them, you can make them! Let's get baking!
If you have any questions or comments put them down below and I will get back to you as soon as I can,
Follow the easy steps below or watch the short video tutorial, or do both!

Combine and Whisk
First preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. or 190 degrees C. Then combine your dry ingredients in a bowl - Granulated sugar, cinnamon, flour, salt, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Then using a whisk or a fork blend them all together.
Prep Them Apples
Now we take 2 granny smith apples or any tart apple and peel and dice them up, then add our dry ingredient mixture to the apples. Make sure to stir them all together, I just use my hands, but you could use a spoon or something else if you like.
Make Your Circles
Now it is time to make our circles from our pie crust dough. I am using two ready-made pie crusts, I included a link to an instructable I made which shows you how to make an excellent homemade flaky pie crust. These pie crusts were on sale for .99 so I just decided to use them. Now take a 5 inch cookie cutter or lid and cut out your circles.

Scoop, Fold, Seal, Poke
Now we take our pie filling and place about 2 heaping tablespoons of apple pie filling on the center of our crust. Then fold it over and seal it with a fork. Next poke holes in the top with your fork, this will allow steam to be released during the baking process.
Place, Bake, Cool
Now place your unbaked hand pie on a baking sheet lined with a silicon mat or parchment paper. Next bake them in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes until they are nice and light golden brown. Then let them cool for 10 to 15 minutes or longer.
Create the Glaze
Now while our pies are cooling let's make our glaze. Take your milk and add about a third of it first to your powdered sugar or half even, then stir, then add the remainder, I do it this way, because it allows me to control the consistency. You want it to be nice and runny. If it is too thick add a little more milk, too thin, add a bit more sugar.
Dip and Place or Place and Baste
Now we have a couple of options on how we get the glaze on the pies. First you can just dip the whole thing in the glaze, turn it oven so both sides get coated, then hold it up and let the excess drain off, then place on a wire rack to dry. Or you could just place the pie on the rack, and then use a basting brush and baste on the glaze. It is totally up to you. Then once you are all done, let the dry for 10 to 15 minutes. There you go! Awesome yummy little hand apple pies!
