Hey guys!

Today I'll show you how to make super easy and quick fake feathers from ribbons. I think most of us have ribbon scraps lying around, so this probably won't cost you anything at all! Also it's a good project for when you're in quarantine. So let's start!

Supplies

  • Ribbon (you can also use certain fabrics, especially satin!)
  • Scissors
  • School glue

If you want to paint your feathers:

  • Watercolors or
  • Markers

Glue the Ribbon

Cut a piece of ribbon that's long enough for your feather. Then take your school glue and make a line along the middle to create the spine. If you're impatient like I am, just dab away the excess glue and you can move on to the next step: Cutting away the rims of the ribbon.

Shaping the Feather

Now you can pull away the long fibers on the sides. Just leave a line of ribbon in the middle which will form your spine. When you're done, you only have to cut the feather into shape! Make it pointy or round, long or short, wide or narrow - it's up to you!

How to Give the Feathers Some Color

Option 1: Paint the ribbon with watercolors before pulling it apart (as I showed in my ribbon hair tutorial and as you can see in the last picture)

Option 2: Paint the feather with markers after it's pulled apart and wipe away any excess ink

In both cases you will get more pastel-like colors.

How to Make a Loop for Jewelry

If you want to make your feathers into pendants, create a long enough "feather shaft" so you can fold it and glue it onto itself. Easy-peasy! That way you can make lightweight jewelry and accessories, or whatever you can think of!

I hope you liked this idea and if you do, feel free to leave me a vote in the jewelry challenge :)

Have an awesome day!
