This is a hot air balloon but instead of using hot air it uses the propulsion of the balloon. I created this for the Make It Fly competition and with the help of Fusion 360 I was able to do it. Right now I am doing home school through Vlearn.ca

Supplies

For this project all you will need are:

  1. 3D printed main piece. (with web Instructables Make It Fly)
  2. 3D printed air regulator. (Instructables Make It Fly caps)
  3. Standard helium balloon.

Here are the printer files:

For this project I suggest using PLA so that the air regulator fits smoothly into the main piece. I tried with a different kind of filament but it required some sanding to get them to fit together. So I would just sticking to using PLA filament.

Now that you have the pieces printed you can move onto the assembly. You can start by pressing the air regulator into the main piece making sure it's flush with the bottom of the main piece, then inflate the balloon a few times so that it isn't so hard to inflate later on, after that you can move on to sliding the neck of the balloon onto the shaft of the main piece as shown in the photo.

Now you're ready to inflate the balloon, let go, and watch it float up into the sky!
