You will need:

-A 3D Pen

-3D Pen Filament (PLA is preferred, as ABS is smelly when extruded)

-Scissors

-A 3D Pen Mat or Masking Tape

-Printer paper (if you are using the masking tape)

First, you’ll want to prep your pen. Set it to the PLA setting, and take out your filament. Choose two colors that you like, as the bridge deck will be a different color from the suspension and supports. Once your pen has heated up, insert the filament that you want for the bridge deck, then set down your 3D pen mat or paper covered with masking tape. Draw a long rectangle with your 3D pen, then start to fill it in.

Make the Supports

Next, load the filament that you want to use for the suspension into your 3D pen. Draw two very thick “H” like shapes, making the inside of the H’s wide enough to fit your bridge deck and the top a little taller than the bottom. Make sure that you make the H shapes thick enough to be strong.

Assemble the Suspension

Next, take the bridge deck and the H supports and put them together. Put the bridge deck on one H support with the taller side facing up, then take your 3D pen and “glue” the bridge deck and H support together. Repeat with the other H support, then add extra filament to reinforce the connection to the bridge deck. Put the tip of your 3D pen on the top of one of the H supports and extrude the filament until it connects the top of one H support to the middle-side of the bridge deck. Bring the 3D pen back up to connect this strand with the top of the H support on the other side. Repeat with the other side of the bridge deck, then draw straight up and down from the bridge deck to make vertical supports. Now sit back and enjoy your 3D Pen Bridge Sculpture!
