Easy 10-minute No Zipper Pouch
This easy 10-minute project will create a small pouch approximately 5.5 X 5.5-inches. This discrete pouch is great to hide away your feminine hygiene products or to organize small items. Great for teens. You will need 2 pieces of fabric approximately 13 X 6 inches.
Supplies
2 Pieces of Fabric, trimmed to 13 X 6 inches
Cutting board
Straight Ruler
Rotary Cutter
Scissors
Straight Pins
Seam Ripper
Thread
Sewing Machine
Iron and Ironing Board
Iron
Iron wrinkles out of fabric before cutting.
Cut
Cut 2 rectangles that are 13 X 6 inches. One piece will be the outside and one will be the liner. Pieces can be the same fabric, or you can use coordinating fabric. It’s your design.
Right Sides Together
Stack fabric on top of each other. Layer fabric pieces with right sides together. The wrong side of the fabric should be facing out.
Mark One Inch Opening
Place two pins about an inch apart on one long side of the fabric. This will indicate your starting and stopping points. Leaving the one-inch opening is necessary to turn the fabric right side out.
Sew Around the Edges
Begin sewing at lower pin. Backstitch 2-3 stitches. Stitch down the edge with a ¼ inch inseam, stop with ¼ inch left at end of fabric. With needle down, lift the presser foot and turn fabric 90 degrees and continue sewing. Repeat. Stitch all around the edges. Stop when you get to the second straight pin and backstitch.
Trim Corners
Trim the four corners so that you can get a nice, pointed corner. Make sure you don't cut the stitches.
Turn Fabric Right Side Out
Use the one inch opening to turn fabric right side out. Once the fabric has been turned right side out, iron, making sure to get edges pushed out. Tip: Use the pointed end of a pencil to push the corners out.
Choose Outside Fabric
Decide which side you want to be on the outside. Fold the bottom up leaving 1.5 inch at the top. Now fold that 1.5 inch flap down so it closes the top. Iron.
Double Stitch Down Open Sides
Stich down the left and right sides two times. Once at 1/4 inch and again at 1/8 inch. Back-stitch at top, flap opening, and the bottom to secure. This will also close the 1-inch opening from earlier.
Cut Strings
Trim stings and iron flat.
Finished
Fill pouch with your hygiene products or whatever else you would like to keep organized and discrete.
