Easily Improve Your Indoor Air Quality

DSC_0597.JPG

Dusty indoor furniture is not necessarily due to poor cleaning. All houses have passive, or active ventilation system sucking in more or less clean outdoor air into the house, and sucking out moist, and used air from the house. It is important for the building and those who live in it.

But when the outdoor air is too polluted, it doesn't just end up as dust on the furniture. You are also breathing in the bad air and that is not good for your health. The good news is it's easy to fix.

  • Universal active carbon filter mat for kitchen hoods
  • Universal air filter mat for Ventilation Hatches
  • Scissors and something to mount the filter

Find Out Where the Outdoor Air Is Coming Into the House

The first step is to find out how your house is ventilated, and where the outdoor air is sucked in. Usually the ventilation outlet is found in the bathroom. And the intake is located in the kitchen, and the bedrooms. Some houses also have additional ventilation hatches near the windows.

You can usually feel the incoming air with your hand, or use a match to see how the flame blows. In my house the outdoor air comes in from vents in the kitchen.

How the filter is installed depends on the type of ventilation openings. Mine was easily removable to mount the filters.

Cut the Filter Mat to Size

I choose to use two types of filter mats. One for ventilation hatches to remove dust, and one carbon filter mat to further clean the air, and remove bad smell. Both was cut slightly larger than the ventilation grilles.

Attach the Filter to the Ventilation Grill

It was easy to just push down the filters along the sides with the back of a spoon to make it stay in place. I mounted the carbon filter mat first, and then the second filter mat nearest from where the air comes from.

Put Back the Ventilation Grill With the Filter - Done

Put back the ventilation grill, and enjoy the better indoor air quality, and the much less need for dusting, and cleaning. 👍
