Earwig Pot to Control Lice on Your Fruit Trees

Lice and other pests in your fruit trees can be controlled by earwigs. To attract earwigs, we quickly and simply create an earwig pot.

Materials needed:

Some straw or hay

Terra cotta flower pot (size doesn't matter much)

Rope, about 75 cm (2 to 3 feet) or metal wire. I prefer to use rope.

Scissors and possibly wire cutters if you use metal wire

Take a handful of straw or hay. Take the size of the pot into account.

Cut a piece of rope of about 75 cm (2 to 3 feet).

Tie the rope around the straw. Make a tight knot.

Insert the rope through the hole in the flower pot.

Pull the straw into the flower pot. Pull hard. If the straw falls out again, you need to use more straw.

Trim the straw. Leave some straw sticking out from underneath.

Now place the earwig pot on the ground in a place where you expect earwigs.

Leave it for a few days and then hang it in a tree.

Earwigs will like to use it, but other insects also find it a nice shelter. In that sense it is also an insect hotel.

The earwigs will now look for lice, mites and eggs of other pests.
