Need a place for your abundance of earrings? With this easy instructable, you can make a customizable earring holder with additional hooks for bracelets and necklaces! You don't need to be a carpenter with wood skills for this one. The supplies are simple, so anyone can make it! Command hooks are readily available at Target or online. The main ingredient is cardboard, and hey, you can use that cardboard box the hooks and duct tape came in in the mail! Dig right into this fun tutorial and get started!

Materials:
  • Cardboard--Unfold a sturdy box and get your cardboard from it!
  • Duct Tape--Natural colors provide subtle accents to your room.
  • Command Hooks--The number depends on how you want to customize your earring holder.
  • Muslin fabric
  • String or wire for hanging
  • X-acto knife
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Cutting mat
  • Scissors

Find some cardboard! I found a sturdy cardboard box, used my X-acto knife to cut it into one long segment, and used a section of it. Measure out of your cardboard a 2-inch border all around. Draw a rectangle inside your rectangle of cardboard. Use your X-acto knife to cut it out, leaving you with a frame very familiar to that of a picture.

The Fabric

Next, lay out your muslin fabric flat on your cutting board. Place your frame on top of the fabric, and trace with a pencil along the inside of the rectangular opening. Cut your fabric, leaving a few inches around the rectangle you drew.

Duct Tape Time!

Break out your favorite color of duct tape, and duct tape around the frame! Rip a segment, wrap it around the cardboard, and try to keep all of the ends of the tape on the back of the cardboard frame. Then, stretch your muslin fabric out on the back of the frame and duct tape around the edges to keep it in place.

Command Hooks

Open a package of Command hooks. Take a sticky tab and cut off the pull part (unless you want to be able to pull it off, but I wanted mine permanent). Remove the red paper and stick it to the back of the hook. Peel off the black paper and apply the hook to your earring holder. Push with force on the hook to make sure it is on well. You can put these hooks all over your earring holder to customize it! Play around with different sizes of hooks to create a variety of storage places for your jewelry.

String Backing

Cut a piece of string however long you would like and duct tape it to the top of the back of the earring holder. Use this string to hang your earring holder on a nail, hook, or anything that sticks out of your wall!

You Are Done!
