Earpads Headphone Cover
Reducing waste should be the focus of every person, and today you can see a little sewing project in which a pair of socks and a pair of earpads have been saved from being thrown away. I don`t do professional sewing, I actually just know how to fix little rips, and you can see from this project that I am a super-beginner, although I do hope you can get inspired even if you don`t usually sew. So, pick up your thread and needle, and let`s start!
Supplies
Tools:
- Old headphones with earpads
- A pair of socks
- Sharpie
- Pencil
- Thread
- Needles
- Meter
- Rubber bands x2
- A4 paper
- Iron
- Scissors
Clean the Earpads
Earpads are generally covered with leather that over time can degrade. First of all, take the earpads out of your headphones. In this case, you can see the damage from the photo, it was easy to remove all the leather just by scratching on top of the earpads with the finger.
Measure
By using a meter, measure the length around the earpads. From the photo you can see that the measurement goes from one white border, all the way across the other.
Prepare the Basis
Measure and mark on an A4, using a pencil, the length of the earpads. Add 2 cm for each side. If you have a compass you can easily draw the 2 different circumferences, but if you don`t proceed as in pictures. Draw the same length as many time as possible to have enough points to be able to draw the two circumferences yourself. It will not be perfect, but it doesn`t need to be. Cut the two circles. To cut the internal circle you will need to cut towards the bigger one, use tape to close the external one once finished.
Prepare the Socks
Cut one of the socks from the back passing through the heel. Open the sock and make sure that you can cover both circumferences. If you can, iron the sock to render it as flat as possible. Do the same for the other sock
Cut the Shapes
Using the external circle, draw the external circumference using a shapie to the back of the sock fabric. Cut the circle.
Shape the Sock
Place the small circle in the middle of the now cut fabric and, by using an iron, flat the edges towards the middle of the circle. During this process, make sure that the fabric is well stretched and that the paper remains flat. If the sock is make of a ticker material, it`s possible to stop the fabric using pins.
Ready for Thread and Needle
The stich technique used is the back stitching.
Stitch the folded side roughly at 1 cm from the folding point. Insert the needle through the fabric, and do a stitch that goes perpendicularly to your folded side. Return with the needle to the point there the first stitch begins and double the distance of the stitch. Do not stich too tightly and pull the needle gently. Repeat the process. Go through the entire diameter of the fabric but leave a little space to insert a safety pin afterwards.
Prepare the Rubber Band
Choose a rubber band a little bit smaller that the diameter of your earpad. Cut the rubber band and open it. Attach a safety pin in the rubber band and pass it through the folded fabric. Knot the two sides of the rubber band together.
Close the Fabric
By using the same technique from step 6 close the fabric.
Ready!
Place your ear pads back on the headphones, and cover them with your new earpads cover!
