EL Wire Weaving on Pegboards

elwiremain.jpg

Make glowing shapes using EL Wire and Pegboard! I originally tried using my kids geoboard with EL Wire but I couldn't get the wire to wrap tightly around the metal pegs on the geoboard. I had an idea to use pegboard instead and it worked perfectly!

Supplies

1x Pegboard

1x saber saw

Misc EL Wires + drivers, note: smaller diameter EL Wire works better. I prefer 1.4mm diameter wire.

Optional: 3d printed stand Get it on thingiverse

Decide how big you want your board to be. I made mine 12 x 12, big enough for making fun stuff but small enough to work with. I then marked the holes that I would be cutting to with a marker.

Using the saber saw, carefully cut out the board. I would suggest cutting through the holes so that you can wrap the wires around the edges.

If you want to put it on the stand, print out the stand. It has a handy cubby in the back for holding the EL Wire controllers.

Weave your EL Wire through the holes and make cool glowing pictures!

One cool trick is to use multiple EL Wire controllers, then you can have parts of your picture blink while other parts stay constantly lit.
