ECO ORB AND ECO BATTERY
Hello everyone and thank you for viewing my Instructable ,
What I want to share with you today is a project I'v been working on ,
I'll call it the eco orb and eco battery , ok so I didn't put to much thought into the name but that's not important ,
what is a eco orb you ask ,
basically its a fancy led lite that runs on clean energy ,
here's an Idea of why I can up with this idea ,
I wanted a light that runs on clean and free energy ,
I wanted to make an easy to use battery that runs on water ,
that's reusable without the hassle and mess that come's with it ,
I wanted to make something that could run an led or two without any help from a joule thief ,
so I needed to make a battery that was completely independent ,
next I needed to make a light for it that looked nicer then a led on a couple of alligator clips ,
so I'm pleased to show you my easy solution to make your own eco orb and battery .

Supply's
OK here's a list of things you need ,
a hardware case with eight compartments , found mine at the dollar store I need the nails anyways ,
eight piece's of three inch solid copper , hardware store got a foot of ac wire then stripped it ,
one green led , got these on ebay 100 for $ 3 dollars ,
tinfoil ,
some wire ,
eight nails zinc coated , I used the one that came with the case ,
white ping pong ball . this was free but you can get them at the dollar store ,
total cost to build this is about five dollars to build but I have lots of leftovers from this project ,
tools I used were ,
glue gun ,
screwdriver and screw ,
hammer for tapping ,
note i'm not responsible if you get hurt always be careful around shape objects and don't run with scissors .
ok let's get started .

Prepare the Case
ok so the first thing we must do is empty the nails out of the case .
then we need to drill 16 small holes for are leads to make the cells ,
I used a screw and a screwdriver ,
now make two holes on the lid above each compartment . as shown in the picture ,
leaving about an inch away from each lead for each cell ,
once you drilled all your holes as shown we can move on to the next step .

Inserting the Leads
ok to make the cells we first have to add the right kinds of metal , using copper and zinc or copper and nickel works great ,
so lets start buy adding the nails , we need to form a pattern to make it easier to wire up , as shown in the picture .
so put one nail in the first cell at the top and then to the next cell at the bottom , repeat this on both sides ,
then put the copper in all the remaining holes ,
when your done you should have two leads in each compartment one being copper and the other the nail ,
then put a bit of glue were you've inserted the leads ,
now you've made your cells it time to connect them ,
OK on to the next step .

to start here's what you need to do make sure you leave one copper lead on one side untouched and one zinc on the opposite side untouched they will be your battery post's for connecting your led ,
ok so now we must connect the cells ,to do this each cell needs to be in this pattern copper to zinc copper to zinc , as shown . will do this by bending one inch of the copper lead around the zinc lead to the cell in front of the other ,
but first we must bridge the two side's together , as shown ,
will do this by bending the one inch of the copper lead around the zinc lead to the cell on the opposite side ,
once you've connected each cell we must make sure the connection are connected ,
now here's were the tinfoil come's in ,
just to make sure the leads are connected I took small pieces of tinfoil and covered each connection ,
once that's done it should look like the picture above ,
ok so you completed your eco battery now we can move on to the next step ,

Making the Orb
so to make the orb is really simple ,
take two four inch wires and strip both ends ,
then wire both leads on the led and glue the leads so the leads can't touch ,
next make a small hole on the ball big enough for your led to go in ,
once you inserted your led glue it into place ,
ok your done now to test what you've made .

Testing
ok fun the fun part open the battery and fill each cell with water ,
next take your orb and wire it up to the battery , remember copper positive and the zinc is negative ,
turn out the lights and see it glow , so now your done ,
be for I say finished here's somethings you may want to know ,
I hooked up my voltmeter to see how much power where getting from the battery ,
results not bad i'm getting 3.2 volts more then enough for a couple led's ,
how strong is the current you ask I got up to 200 ma , and the led that i'm using only needs 50 ma .
as shown in the last picture I had it running the orb and two other led's .
how long doe's it run ,
I filled it up and timed it , lasted for two hours before it started to fade out ,
next take your orb and wire it up to the battery , remember copper positive and the zinc is negative ,
turn out the lights and see it glow , so now your done ,

Finale Thought's
so I'm actually satisfied the way it turned out ,
like I said I tried a few different Ideas did not perform as well as this one did ,
before this battery I always was stuck needing a joule thief to get enough power to light an led ,
now if you wanted greater power output you could use a joule thief to get the maximum results ,

before this battery I always was stuck needing a joule thief to get enough power to light an led ,
now if you wanted greater power output you could use a joule thief to get the maximum results ,
