Note: This recipe serves about 9 people, feel free to double the ingredients if necessary.
Special Equipment
- Hand mixer (or Whisk)
- 8x8 Baking Dish
- Round Bowl
- Shallow Bowl
- Sieve
- Rubber Spatula
- Aluminum Foil
Measure the ingredients and prepare the supplies before starting.
- Measuring the ingredients beforehand will avoid discrepancies and yield better and more consistent results.
In a round bowl, add heavy whipping cream and beat it on medium speed using a whisk or hand mixer until you have reached soft peaks. (The amount of time this takes will vary depending on your resources.)
- You will know you have achieved this if you lift the hand mixer and the mixture goes up with it and slightly holds its form.
Slowly add the sugar and vanilla to the heaving whipping cream and beat until you have stiff peaks.
Take room-temperature mascarpone cheese and add it to the heavy whipping cream mixture and gently fold it in using a rubber spatula starting at the bottom of the bowl and bringing it over to the top until thoroughly combined.
- This will keep the texture of the cream fluffy and creamy.
Place the mascarpone and cream mixture off to the side and grab a shallow bowl. In the bowl, add two cups of espresso, or desired strong coffee.
- If it is freshly brewed espresso then let it cool before you begin the next step.
Dip both sides of the ladyfingers into the cooled expresso one at a time before arranging it at the bottom of your tray to form the first layer of your tiramisu.
- Do not soak the ladyfingers for long because you want a firm but soft texture.
Add about a half-inch layer of the mascarpone cream mixture then place the dry butter biscuits on top.
- There is no need to dip the butter biscuits because they will soak up moisture from the cream.
Spread another layer of the mascarpone cream mixture across the layer of biscuits.
Apply another layer of ladyfingers, by dipping them into the coffee. On top of that add another layer of butter biscuits.
Spread the rest of the mascarpone cream mixture on top of the second layer of the ladyfingers and butter biscuits and create an even, smooth layer of cream using the spatula.
Dust the top of the dessert with cocoa powder to your preference, using a sieve. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
Refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 5 hours before cutting and serving.
- Refrigerating longer will allow the dessert to be firm, soften the ladyfingers and still keep them fresh and tasty!
