Duplicate It!

dupe 01.jpg

The duplicate command is similar to the copy command, but has a few added benefits.

Let's try it out and see what the duplicate command can do.

Instructions

    1. Continue to the next step.

Select + Duplicate

Duplicating a shape will create an exact copy directly on top of the existing shape.

Instructions

    1. Drag a shape from the Shape Panel onto the Workplane in the center of the screen.
    2. Click the Duplicate icon in the top toolbar, the new shape will be placed exactly on top of the reference shape.
      The duplicate hotkey is ctrl + D / ⌘ + D

Duplicate Again

The duplicate command has a special feature that remembers changes you make and reapplies them to each instance of the duplication.

Once a duplicated shape has been placed you can move or modify the duplicated shape, then press the duplicate icon again to create another copy with the changes applied again.

Instructions

    1. While it is selected, Make a change to the duplicated shape (move, stretch, etc.)
    2. Press the Duplicate icon again (or ctrl+D / ⌘+D) and see the changes applied to each instance of the duplication
    3. Continue pressing the Duplicate icon to create a pattern with the duplicates.

You Did It!

Great job, you did it!

You're now a duplicating pro.

Instructions

    1. Try duplicating more than one shape at a time by using the lasso tool (click and drag on screen to make a selection), or by clicking on a shape and then shift+click another shape.
    2. With the shapes selected try using the duplicate function to see what happens.
