DunDu Joint

This is the DunDu Joint I designed.

Build the Base Model

Step1.png

Actually, before I started prototyping I first decided that I'm going to design a 3-tube joint, then I made three 24mm-diameter*100mm cylinders. I bridged them and got the object in the picture. Of course, I also did Insert SubD Edge Loop the make the edge of the tubes look more smooth.

I wanted to make the joint to be interesting, so I gotta make edits on it to make it unique at some point. So I went to SubD Tools and started editing it.

What I did was cut out two planes from the end of each tube, which was six in total. Then I bridged them one to another, and I got the basic model.

Evolving

Now I have the basic model, I will continue to evolve it. I wanted to make the holes on each side become just a little bit sharper. So, I added a crease on the sidelines of each hole.

I also felt the middle was too hollow, so I selected the point at the middle and dragged it out to the middle.

After editing it the model became a lot plumper and interesting.

Prepare for Printing

After editing the model, I needed to make holes in the model so the sticks can stick in. I made three 20mm-diameter*100mm cylinders, and I manipulated them to intersect with the three ends on the model.

Then I boolean the difference, and got three holes. The last step before printing was to convert the object to NURBs, after that the object was ready for printing. I also changed the color because of my personal preference.
