Dum Dums Birthday Cake Decorations

Candy decorations are a great way to create unique effects and patterns on cakes. Dum Dums are perfect for birthday cake decorations, since they come in so many fun and pretty colors.

What you’ll need:
• Dum Dums
• Icing
• Cake Mix
• Optional: Sprinkles

For the Dum Dums, choose any fun colors you want. We decided on rainbow. If you’d like to do the same, here are the flavors for each color:
Red - Cherry, Watermelon, or Strawberry
Orange - Orange
Yellow - Mango
Green - Sour Apple
Blue - Blu Raspberry, Blueberry, or Cotton Candy
Violet - Grape
Violet Red - Fruit Punch

(We didn’t include pink, but if you’d like to, use Bubble Gum Dum Dums!)

Directions:
1. Bake and Ice your Cake. We used a cake mix to save time, but feel free to use your favorite cake recipe. We think white icing looks best against the brightly colored Dum Dums.

2. Decorate with Dum Dums. Poke the Dum Dums in along the bottom of the cake, side by side, all the way around. The sticks are handy for keeping the candy decorations in place!

3. Final Touches. Do whatever you like to finish your cake. Have fun with it! We added a “Happy Birthday” message on the top in colored icing.
