Duct Tape Choker
Hi
This is my first instructable. So, today I had nothing to do so I started looking through the duct tape section. I found a lot of the same stuff (roses, wallets, bags, and bow ties). I was looking at one of the bow ties, when I thought what if I made a choker. Now I'm here sharing my choker.
Supplies
You'll need...
- duct tape (I used grey and black, but it doesn't matter what you use)
- scissors
- some sort of latch(I used a button and a key ring)
- sewing needle
- embroidery thread
- measuring tape (not super necessary, but helpful)
Measure Neck
This is pretty self explanatory. Just measure around your neck. It's helpful to know this measurement so you can estimate the length of duct tape you'll need to go around your neck.
Measure and Cut Duct Tape
You can use the measurement from your neck or just eyeball this step. What your measuring now is the bulk of the necklace. Once you have measured the duct tape or eyeballed depending on preference you can cut your duct tape.
Fold Duct Tape
For this step, you take your duct tape and fold it sticky side to sticky side. I first folded it in half, but then realized that it was too thick, so I redid it but this time I used half of the length of my neck (neck=12in, I used 6in of duct tape) Then I cut that in half, so I had two 6 in pieces and folded those. After folding them I connected them with more duct tape.
Connect Your Latch
I sewed my latch on then covered my sewing with duct tape. For the button side it was pretty straight forward. You just sew the button onto the duct tape then tie it off. For the key ring side it was slightly harder.
First you had to measure how it around your neck and stop. Next I threaded the duct tape through the key ring and folded it over onto the duct tape. I then sewed the two pieces of duct tape together(one folded over the other w/ the ring in between.
You can look at the pictures if that's more helpful.
Detailing
After you attach the latch you're mostly finished, but I wanted to add some detailing.First off I added grey tape to the places where you could see the stitching because it looked bad. If you look up chokers online or own some yourself then you know that a lot of them have detailing. You could add details to the band if you want, but I thought that mine looked cool that way it was.
You're Finished
Great job! Now you have a cool looking choker. I think that mine looks cool at least. Mine's pretty itchy so I probably won't wear it, but hey that's just something I can improve on later.
