Driveway / Parking Space ( Brand ) Marking

IMG_0097.jpeg

Background:

I have a primitive driveway, which I had stabilized Decomposed Granite ( DG ) added to when we first moved in. It held up well for about five years, through the many deliveries of materials, while we did our projects around the house. But we have annual monsoon rains, which eventually eroded the DG material, especially where there is a slight incline. Post monsoon recovery and resetting of that material was getting OLD, as I was….to be doing that maintenance in retirement. So for a longterm solution I had 46 tons of 3/4” landscape rock delivered to spread and compact over the entire large oval driveway. I had an idea to incorporate a symbol in a parking space off the driveway!

Project:

In a side park out spot I made a “ reserved parking area “, MARKED with a brand logo for my new upcoming sEV Solar Electric Vehicle [ www.Aptera.us ]. This vehicle will be left outside our garage all day to take advantage of the solar exposure for a free solar charge in our SW location in AZ ( up to 40 mi./day )

A project area ( my old driveway parking area), (which I compacted before starting).

3/4” landscape stone. ( I used “ Coronado” for my color scheme.)

Irregular contrasting * ( green ) rock to form the symbol

A plate compactor. (Many would rent one. I had purchased mine for need for past repair/ maintenance.)

Rock Set

Set the Brand ( design ) logo in designated spot. Mine was a simple design so... set by eye. (Some might want to make a template) Applied a contrasting but similar logo color rock. In my case * “ Green” rock ( about two inches deep ),

Surrounded that design/ all the driveway/parking spot with the main 3/4” Coronado landscape….two to three inches deep ( I gave the rock supplier my project area dimensions and desired depth to determine amount needed . I needed 46 tons for the entire driveway/parking area project. The parking spot alone did not use much rock. ) I live on a huge ranch and gather the unique green contrasting rock from a nearby mountain ( about fourteen 5 gal buckets) This rock was taken “ as is” as found fallen/ eroded from the mountain, so most much bigger than 3/4”

Rock Compacting

When I was happy with the design and amount of rock spread, using my plate compactor with water tank.. I compacted the rock in place, criss crossing in a few directions. The water is optional but helps with controlling dust and helps with the compact set

Imagine… Enjoy

Soon after, I suppose the hours of compacting needed to compact the entire driveway.. awakened the local wildlife as a Gila Monster came out “ to check the project out” and try to blend in to the new colors😉

I used AI to place image of the future Aptera in the area to supply perspective!

Maybe others might find themselves, as I did, mid project, where I added on this design idea to add “ in a mild way” a symbol that was important to me. Changing it would be simple. “Imagine Your Space,”
