Driftwood Horse Sculpture!

Anyone that knows me personally knows that I love driftwood. So much so that I've amassed way too much driftwood in my parents flower beds!! Now the time has come to exercise some creativity and put it to use. I decided to take a different approach to sculptures. feel like driftwood sculptures should look something like the ruggedness of driftwood itself. This avoids the problem of sculptures looking like a bunch of sticks.

Tools Needed

• Impact Driver
• Screws
• Chainsaw
• Skill Saw
• Assorted Driftwood

Creeks and river are great sources of driftwood. Take a hike down a stream or use a boat to help haul your finds to the nearest bridge. Submersed wood can be difficult to chop loose .If it's shallow enough use a chainsaw. Shown here is Ash driftwood.

Rather than making legs out of multiple pieces I simply used four long pieces of driftwood. Also find pieces ideal for the tail or head.

It's time to get the screws and start building! Don't go shy on the screws!!

Finding a good head piece is the hardest part. I ended up putting together a bunch of smaller pieces for this.

Cut some smaller pieces without ruining the desired weathered look. "Round" out the body with small piecies but don't make a trash heap!

If you want add eyes by painting small light bulbs or marbles. To protect the wood soak it in a 9 to 1 ratio of bleach and water. I brushed on a strong bleach concentration.

Find horsey a nice "habitat" and enjoy!!!!!!!
