Drawing Koch Snowflake by Hand (Meditative Fractal Art)

Drawing fractals by hand is a very meditative experience. I like to draw them when I’m stressed or tired as a form of art therapy. It is a time consuming but enjoyable process. It surprisingly only requires a little bit of math at the beginning of the project

Calculating the Dimensions

To draw a nice-looking fractal, you’re going to need at least 5 sizes of equilateral triangles. Start from the smallest: choose the dimensions (I chose 2mm), for each larger one multiply the previous one by 3, do that until you get the largest triangle that comfortably fits on your piece of paper.

Creating a Triangle Tool

Using a protractor draw an equilateral triangle with the dimensions of your largest triangle.

Drawing the First Row

Using the triangle tool as a template draw the first triangle. Using a ruler mark each side into 3 equal increments. Using the markings as a guide place the triagle tool upside down and draw another triangle forming a David's star. Mark each side in 3 equal increments.

The Second Row

As shown in the pictures line up the triangle tool with the marks you made and use its as a guide to draw another row of smaller triangles.

The Third Row

Mark each side in 3 equal increments and repeat the process of drawing triangles.

The Forth Row

Repeat step 5 with your smallest triangle row (if the triangles are realy small you can eve just draw them without the guide)

Outlining

Use a small ruler to outline your fractal (if you have a really steady hand you can do it by hand, I switched between the two methods) and erase the pencil marks.
