If you can make something awesome with just paper ,then this is one of those. A Jewelry Box. I call it Double Decker because it has two decks. One for earrings and studs and another one for bracelets and rings. It is a versatile jewelry box which can be made according to your color choices. Now lets see how to make this.

Materials Required

  • Quilling papers(colours of your choice) (You can buy them in bulk or make your own).
  • Slotted tool used for quilling (Optional)
  • White Glue

Parts of the Jewelry Box

Before getting into the steps of making the box.Let me discuss the various parts of the jewelry box.

Cup - Main part of the box

Upper lid - Which helps to close the box

Medium disc - Acts as a holder for the bracelets

2 Small disc - One acts as a rings holder and another acts as a knob to hold the lid.

All these parts follow the same steps to make but only the size differs.I will be using the words described in the the process of making the jewelry box.

Making of the Disc for Cup

Hold a quilling paper in the slotted tool and start twisting the tool to wind the paper. When you reach the end of the strip, glue another strip and twist.Repeat this process till you get a circle with diameter of approx 4 inches (10 cm). Secure the end with glue. Now the disc for making the cup is done.

Here, is the right place to customize your cup.You can alternate the colors or form a pattern with choice of your desired color .(Like I did with bright and light pink strips)

If you don't have the slotted tool ,You can make one using this instructable .Or start by rolling the paper itself to create a base .Hold the strip of paper with forefinger and thumb and rotate to wind the paper. It will be easier once you created the base. Then start adding the other strip once you reach the end of the strip.

Adding the Glue and Making the Cup

Apply glue on the disc and gently push down to form a cup.You can also apply one more coat of glue after forming the cup.Allow the glue to dry for at least 24 hours.

Upper Lid and Small Disc for Ring Holder

Repeat step 3 and 4 to create a upper lid for the box and small disc for ring holder. The upper lid should be slightly bigger than 4 inches in diameter.Approx 4.7inches (12cm) so that it can close the cup.Small disc should be around 1.2 inches (3 cm)

For the upper lid after applying glue gentle push up and down from outer to the center and create a pointed center. For the small disc ,after applying glue gently push down and allow it to dry.

Medium Disc and Small Disc for Knob

Repeat step 3 and create a disc of about 2.4 inches (6 cm) for medium disc and 1.2 inches (3 cm) for knob. Apply glue and allow it to dry.

Glue the Smaller Discs

Glue the small disc(made for ring holder) to the center of the medium disc and Glue the another small disc(knob) to the center of the upper lid.Allow it to dry. The beautiful double decker quilled jewelry box is now ready to hold your jewelry collection.

Alternatively,You can also make this with paper strips. Also you can vary the size according to your desire. But don't go too oversized as paper will not be stable enough to bear the weight. Hope you like this instructable.Feel free to share your comments below.
