Dorm students! Here is a big treat for you. Tiered of the same Ramen noodles? Want some Pizza for the dinner? Why order when can make some in your dorm. Be little crazy with the few equipment you have and allowed to use in your room. Create a delicious Pizza.

A part of the making is inspired from the recipe Ramen burger. This recipe was posted by the author mikeasaurus.

I thank him for the inspiration of giving a twist to the Ramen noodles. I have taken the technique of stacking heavy things on the cooked noodles to get the buns. I have created a dorm twist to his wonderful instructable.

In short I can call this instructable as "Iron Box and Kettle Hack". He had prepared the buns for the burger in a pan. I have used an aluminium foil and Iron box to get a crisp Pizza Base and for the finishing stages of the making. I have used the kettle to boil the water I need. I have not used the noodle seasoning since we get bored of it after sometime when you are in a dorm.

So come along to see how to make delicious and inexpensive Pizza in your dorm with just an Iron Box and kettle. This is real fun and crazy way to have a Pizza and stun your room mates.

Ingredients

Preparation Time - 45 minutes

Cooking Time - 15 minutes

Serves - 2

Dorm Life starts with saving money too. I have listed down the ways I have made this recipe inexpensive.

Ingredients:

Noodles - 1 pack

Egg - 1/2

Green Bell Pepper - 1/4 Cup

Onion - 1/ Cup

Cheese - 1/4 Cup(You can use any variety like Mozzarella. I used the cheese slice I had which I use to toast the bread with)

Water - 3/4 to 1 Cup(Just enough to cover the noodles)

Italian Seasoning - 2 Tsp

(If you cant afford buying a bottle of it preserve the seasoning pack you have got while ordering a shop Pizza. You can use any seasoning that you like. I have a pack of Pizza Hut Italian Seasoning with me. :D)

Tomato Sauce (Ketchup) - 1/4 Cup

(You can get small Sachet of Tomato Ketchup if you don't want a whole bottle of it. Tomato Ketchup can surely be used for many dorm food so it is not a bad idea to buy a bottle of it.)

Equipments:

Plastic cling wrap

Aluminium Foil ( I got a pack with 50% extra. :D Some good offer was going on)

Iron Box

Kettle

Knife

Spoon

Heat Water

P1266040.JPG
P1266072.JPG
P1266078.JPG

Take a kettle. Pour water above the minimum level.

Now close the lid and switch on the kettle. In my kettle I have a red light indication. Once the light goes it shows my water has boiled.

Transfer 3/4 cup of water in a cup and add some salt to it.

Mix it well.

Egg

Break an egg into a bowl. Whisk it well. Keep it aside.

Noodle Time

Now in a small heat resistant bowl/box transfer the noodle. Do not crush it. This is because we need a Pizza base.

Now add the hot water with salt we had made into the bowl. Add water such that the noodle is just immersed in it.

Add whisked egg in drops (drizzle) with the help of a spoon.

With help of aluminium foil cover the box.

Let it stand for 10 minutes.

By this time the egg will be cooked along with the noodles. The noodles was perfectly cooked and the egg drops were perfectly cooked in the boiling water.

The aluminium foil had trapped the heat and cooked it well. Since egg in drops and noodles cook really fast we can use this method.

Drain the excess water.

Note:

Don't add entire whisked egg as the heat inside the aluminium foil will not be sufficient to cook the egg. If you add in drizzles like how you do for egg drop soup you will get perfectly cooked egg.

Pizza Base

P1266118.JPG

This is where I have to thank Mikeasaurus for his Idea of stacking heavy things above to get a base.

Take a round shaped Box. Place the Plastic cling wrap at the base.

Add the cooked noodles-egg mix.

With a fork or spoon press them down. With the rest portion of the cling film cover the upper portion of the base.

I placed a round box fitting inside the bottom box. Get the biggest of your books and place them over the box. Wait for 1/2 an hour.

Get something to do. Its waiting time!

Note:

If you have access to the common refrigerator then after the Noodle Pizza Base becomes firm place them in the fridge also. Then it will get real dry and firm.

If not do not worry since you have drained the water it is dry. Wait a little longer to get it real dry.

Prepare for Iron Hack

Take an aluminium foil that will cover the whole base.

Transfer the Noodle Pizza Base along with the Cling film onto the foil. Place it to one side. Now the cling film is at the bottom of the noodle base. We need to remove it and this is how I did.

Cover the foil over the base. Carefully with both your hands flip over.

Now the cling film will be on the top. Remove the cling film.

Precautions while using Iron Box:

  • Use the Iron Box in the ironing area.
  • There should be always a layer of aluminium foil between the food and the iron box. Do not use it directly over food.

Now Dormies for some fun! This is the best part.

Brush the aluminium wrap (on the side where the noodle pizza is kept) with oil. The noodle should be dry to prevent sticking onto the wrap.

Cover the upper side of Pizza with aluminium wrap. Seal the side to form a packet. This is to avoid the food coming in contact with the iron box.

You can use the iron box at cotton setting (High). Keep moving the iron box over the Pizza Base. You can here a crackling sound. The oil is getting heated up and we get a browning effect. Do this for 3 minutes. Always keep moving the Iron Box.

Tips learned from Previous trials:

  • My first trial did not come out well. The noodle got stuck to the inner side of the wrap. Hence I brushed the wrap with oil to prevent sticking on the wrap.
  • I first tried with lower setting of heat (Nylon and satin) of Iron box and ironed over the Pizza. It was going fine but took a long time.
  • Slowly increased the heat till cotton setting and tried and I got quick browning.

Now flip over and do the same in the other side.

Now both the sides are crisp.

It is time for topping.

Topping

P1276264.JPG

Transfer it to a heat resistant plate.

Add a layer of Tomato sauce.

Add chopped onions and Green Bell Pepper.

You can be creative here. Add the toppings you like.

Cheese Time

P1276282.JPG
P1276292.JPG
P1276297.JPG

You don't have a grater in hand. Make thin strips from the cheese slice with a knife. Cut them into smaller strips.

Add it onto the Pizza as a topping.

Final Iron Box Hack

Now for the final Hack.

Take an aluminium foil and place it over the Pizza gently.

Now keep the Iron box at medium heat and gently go over the wrap. Do not press.

Now due to the heat the cheese will melt.

Your Dorm Hack Noodle Pizza is ready. Surprise your roomies with all that you can do with just an Iron Box and kettle. Have a delicious Noodle Pizza.

Note:

The onion and Bell Pepper will avoid the contact of foil with cheese.
