Highly recommended that you get yourself some quality brushes, the bare minimum of stiff, and a soft brush. A toothbrush is enough if in a hurry. Any normal store-bought dish soap will work. Plastic container to hold the solution. Finally, a rag or piece of clothing to wipe the soap off the shoe.

Dip the soft brush into the solution and begin brushing in a circular motion the top portion of the shoe, usually, the material is delicate and requires less force to clean. Too much force will damage the shoe.
For the bottom portion of the shoe which is usually a harder material, use more force or a stiffer brush to properly clean the shoe, and wipe the excess soap with a rag or cloth.
Repeat steps 5 and 6, the more work put into cleaning them, the better the results.

Let the shoe dry off and drop the shoelace into the solution.
