Don't Open Up a Can of Worms!
Hey, I'm Laila, a 15 year old high school student and I decided to enter the Big and Small contest because this topic really stood out and interested me when looking for a contest to enter. I really like the fact that this project had an arts and crafts element to it. I had a lot of fun making this project and even though I had some trouble at times, I overcame them and I'm happy with the results. As you can see from the images, this project is about worms living in cans, like the phrase “Don't open up a can of worms”. This project took me about 3 weeks on and off. I made a dining room, a living room, and an office diorama all out of crafts materials, hope you like my submission!
Supplies
The supplies I used for this project included:
- Air-dry Clay
- Glass Jars
- Coloured paper
- White paper
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brushes
- Markers
- Pencil
- Pencil crayons
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- LED fairy lights
Make Objects of the Clay!
I used the air-dry clay and hand made a couch, table, desk, T.V, plates, a laptop, forks, a candle, chairs and of course, the worms for all my dioramas.
Draw and Cut With Pencil Crayon and Markers!
I used pencil crayons and markers to hand draw different floors, a wooden floor for the living room, a tile floor for the dining room, and a plain floor for the office. I also drew and cut the T.V screen which was showing ‘Worm News’ and a laptop screen where the office worm was video-calling their friend.
Paint and Glue!
I painted all the objects using acrylic paint, adding different colors to make it look more realistic, then I glued on the T.V screen and laptop screen when the paint was dry.
Assemble!
I glued the floors to the bottom of the jars, for the living room, I placed the couch, the worm, and T.V in the jar, then secured them with glue. I assembled the dining room with the table, placed the plates, candle, handmade forks and cups, a chair with a worm, and secured those with glue as well. For the office, I placed the worm, chair, desk, and laptop, then secured those with glue. Then I added fairy lights around my jars for some nice lighting, and took pictures of all my dioramas.
This project was super fun and I hope you get inspired to make one just like this, Thanks!
