According to statistics, up to one trillion plastic bags are used worldwide each year. Plastic bags are everywhere and they are notorious for their harmful effect on the ecosystem. That's why I decided to reduce my usage of plastic bags and reuse some old ones along with newspapers to make artworks, and I will show you in this Instructable how I made a Donald duck model with these materials.

Supplies

  • Used plastic bags.
  • Old newspapers.
  • Cardboard ( I cut it from a box).
  • Scissors.
  • Glue gun.
  • Tape.
  • Pencil.

Shaping the Head

After drawing Donald duck on the cardboard, it's time to start shaping the head of our duck:

  • Tear a piece of newspaper.
  • Fold it into an oval-like shape.
  • Press it using your fingers and -if necessary- add more newspaper pieces until it resamples the drawn head.
  • Wrap the shaped newspaper with a white piece of a plastic bag.
  • Tape the back of the head and make sure its front is not wrinkled.

Shaping the Beak

Likewise, we are going to shape the beak, but there are few additional steps:

  • Place a newspaper piece on the cardboard and make it fit into the drawn beak.
  • Tape additional newspaper pieces vertically on the upper part of the beak.
  • Add more pieces until the upper beak is solid enough.
  • Use tape to fix the pieces well.
  • Wrap a yellow plastic bag piece around the beak.
  • Stick a light red plastic bag scrap to the inner part of the beak, then stick a dark red triangular piece for the tongue (using folded tape to make it double-sided).
  • Use the glue gun to fix the head and the beak together and to the cardboard.

Dressing the Duck Up

Now we know our four main steps:

  • shape.
  • tape.
  • wrap.
  • fix.

and that's what we should do in order to make the costume for our duck.

Tying the Bow Tie

Tying the bow tie has never been easier, just:

  • Crumple the red plastic bag.
  • Twist it in the middle.
  • Tape the sides to look like a bow tie.

Making the Duck Eyes

After adding the yellow stripes on the costume, now it's time for placing the eyes:

  • Cut a blue plastic bag piece into two exact eye-like pieces.
  • Stick it to the head (using folded tape to make it double-sided).
  • Do these same two steps with a black plastic bag for the eye pupil.
  • Don't forget to add the white point to the eyes to make them sparkle.

Here is another similar artwork I made for Daffy duck. However, that doesn't mean that you can only make duck characters using this technique. Just let your imagination run wild to create different new artworks and help the ecosystem at the same time.
