For this project I wanted to create a dog hammock so my dog can sleep peacefully!

Supplies

Wood

(Could use plywood but cedar pickets are cheap and work just as well)

3/8in rope

25mm drill bit

Cutting tools

For this project, you can see the materials needed in the above picture. Essentially, the base is constructed from two long pieces of wood with a notch about a third of the way. The notch holds the cross pieces which allow the hammock to be stable. This can be cut with anything from a bandsaw to a table saw or even a hand saw as long you have the persistence. The base and support sticks just slot together and you add a little bit of glue. The main arms of the hammock are essentially made from a larger piece of plywood. It can be any shape as long as it mainly just goes up. Additionally, make sure to put a hole in it to hold the rope for the hammock. This piece is just screwed to the base with 1.5 in screws on either side. Make sure to tailor the hammock to whatever size your dog is.

My dog seemed somewhat skeptical of the hammock at first .... I think he'll take a little bit of time to get used to it, but he seemed to enjoy it later on. To attach the hammock cloth to the arms, just gather something like a towel or a blanket in a bunch and pass it through the loops created by the paracord passed through the holes in the arms. Then, just tie the hammock cloth and you've got a makeshift hammock cloth! If you want to go above and beyond, you could sew a more intricate hammock.

Have fun!
