Dog Feeding Station
We have a couple of dogs (a 10 month Rottweiler/German Shepherd cross and a 12year old border collie) and usually they are at home with my wife who works from home.
However sometimes we have to go into town and it isn't fair to leave them in the house all day, so I built them some outside houses to shelter from the sun.
The young one is in a 3m x 3m cage as she is TROUBLE!!! but the older is allowed free reign.
I've entered this in the woodwork competition because - well it's made of wood - however there are few carpentry skills involved ;-)
(I did knock in a few nails though!!!!!!)
The House/kennel
So I initially built a kennel, an easy box construction made from discarded packing and renovation wood from my wife's work.
Basically there were 3 sheets of ply on 4x2 frames, chucked them all on the car and knocked up a house.
I know the corrugated iron runs the wrong way but it was the only piece I had!
Now this is ok but we need somewhere for feed bowls and storage of food/water for a neighbour who pops over to give a lunchtime feed.
(the older dog is diabetic so needs regular feeds and the puppy is, well a puppy, and will eat it's own weight if allowed!)
Frames
I found an old packing case side frame which I cut in half and nailed a piece of 2x1 on the end to make 2 matching rectangles
Top
A piece of ply was cut the same size as the top frame.
I then drew around the feed bowls and drilled a hole, then using a jigsaw cut out 2 circles about half an inch smaller than the bowls
Top Finished
Screwed the ply to the top frame
The bowls were $2 each from K-Mart
Sides
Cut ply to fit 3 sides and screwed in place, also cut an access door and hinged using recycled hinged from a broken chook house
Also I installed the hinges and bolt before completing the door cut as it is much easier to align them that way
The front is slightly longer to ease installation
Installation
Screwed to front position of dog kennel, through frames and overlap at front
Storage under for spare food and water for lunchtime meal to save neighbour having to go into house
Preserve
A quick coat of wood stain and jobs done. Time taken - just over an hour
By elevating the water and feed bowl the old dog can eat at a comfortable height and then lie in the shade or on a bed inside the kennel
