This dress is great for a large stylish dog!

Supplies

For this project, you will need 2 different fabrics, a sewing machine, sewing pins, a fabric cutter, fabric chalk, and a cutout pattern.

Cut Out the Fabric

The top part of the dress: The first step is to fold the fabric in half with the inside of the fabric facing out. Then use the pattern to trace the fabric and cut it out. After cutting the fabric out, pin both the front and back of the dress together.

Sewing Both Sides

Use a running stitch to stitch the front and back of the fabrics together along the side and shoulder. Stitch about one inch in from the edge. **Don't forget to back stitch in the beginning and end!

Next, secure the running stitch and prevent fraying with a zig-zag stitch at the ends of the fabric.

Now, let's tidy up the edges by hemming the sides of the top. Fold about 1/2 an inch of fabric in around the sleeve and neck and secure it with pins. Use a zig-zag stitch to hem the sleeve and neck.

Dress Layers

Take the next piece of fabric and cut them into three different sizes for the layers. Make sure there is enough fabric that it wraps around the top part of the dress with two inches of extra fabric on each side!

Make the Layers Neat

For each of the three layers, fold in and pin about an inch of the fabric on the sides and bottom. Next, use a running stitch to secure the fabric in place. **Don't forget to backstitch!

Gather the Fabric

To gather the fabric in order to make the ruffles on the skirt, start with a long stitch length (3 to 4) leaving long tails of 2 inches on the thread on both sides. Then sew another line another 1/2 inch in from the line you just finished. ***DO NOT BACK STITCH

Hold the end of one string and pull the fabric towards you with your other hand. You'll see it start to gather up. Do this on the other side now, and keep going until you reach the length and ruffles you want.

Repeat this step with each of the layers

Once finished, sew back over the stitches about 1/2 inch in with a normal stitch length to secure everything.

Sew the Layers Together

Attach Both Pieces Together

Using pins, line the skirt to the bottom of the top piece. Once aligned, use a running stitch, making sure to backstitch the two pieces together.
