I was really curious what is the answer to the topic question. One day I was searching for some information and I found the answer, but that wasn't enough for me. I had to find out for myself. That’s why I started to play music to young cucumbers.

Playing Music

Plants' favorite music

I started playing music 2 weeks after sowing seeds. The first cucumber was listening to rock music, the second one was listening to classical music (Mozart) and the last one wasn’t listening to any music. I was putting them at the same time next to 3 similar windows at a similar time and played the loudest music I could from headphones. Here is a timelapse of rock and classical music cucumbers growing almost a month (time-lapses were taken2 hours a day) (: .

At the end of my experiment, I measured all plants (click the table to make it bigger). These are the results. The left plant was listening to rock music, the middle one to classical, and the last one didn't listen to music at all.

All plants have cells called “stomata” on their leaves’ bottom side. They are used to let the light into the plant. When the plant hears classical music its stomata are opening wider and they let more light inside. Rock music “destroys” the plant because there is too much vibration in rock music and the stomata are opening too wide.
