I made The Doctor's psychic paper from Doctor Who for one of my cosplays

Supplies

You will need:

  • Cheap passport holder
  • Something that looks like leather (I used a black clipboard folder that had a vinyl cover as it was a lot cheaper)
  • Plastic Sheet (My clipboard had a plastic sleeve I used)
  • X-acto knife
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided tape
  • Paper
  • Ruler
  • Pen/Pencil

Covering the Inside of the Passport Holder

Cut a rectangle of your black ‘leather’ out, slightly larger than your passport holder.

Open the passport holder and secure the material onto the inside into place, using double-sided tape, and fold over the edges, taping into place. (Covering the inside of the passport holder, and folding over onto the outside).

Making the Plastic Window

Cut out the plastic, slightly larger than you want your pocket.

Securing once again in place with double-sided tape, folding over your extra edges and also taping into place.

(Don’t worry that you can see the double-sided tape through the plastic, you’ll be covering that up).

Using another sheet of your material, attach one edge to the inside edge which creates the base of the plastic pocket with double-sided tape.

Flip the passport cover over, so the outside is facing up. Cover with double-sided tape, and carefully smooth material over.

Fold the passport cover in half and cover in double-sided tape as before. Carefully smooth over the material again.

The material section I used was too large, so I trimmed it down, leaving an allowance around the edge.

Place double-sided tape around the allowance and fold over onto the inside of the passport holder.

Making the Card Slot

Using a piece of paper create a template for the triangle flap, going from the corner to the middle of the passport holder.

Test the template against the passport holder.

Once your template fits how you want it to, trace out and cut onto your material.

On the opposite side to the plastic pocket, gently peel back two of the edges.

Apply double-sided tape to the back of your triangle and secure it into place, folding the edges back into place over the triangle pocket.

Making the "paper" to Put Into the Plastic Slip

Measure the size of your plastic pocket.

On the same leftover piece of paper from the previous step, draw out your dimensions and cut them out. This is going to be your ‘psychic paper’.

Place the paper insert inside of the plastic pocket.

Place your card behind the piece of paper. (You can use any contactless smart card, such as travel cards or bank cards)
